In the Champions League, they finished last in their group with seven points, behind Olympiakos, Dinamo Zagreb, and Porto. During the season, Morten Olsen was replaced by former Ajax midfielder Jan Wouters as head coach. The team finished sixth in the league, 23 points behind champions Feyenoord, but won their fourteenth KNVB Cup, defeating Feyenoord in the semi-finals and Fortuna Sittard 2-0 in the final.
