In the 1995–96 season, A.C. Reggiana competed in Italy’s Serie B under new manager Carlo Ancelotti, who took charge despite having no prior head coaching experience. Inspired by Arrigo Sacchi’s tactics, Ancelotti implemented a disciplined 4–4–2 system that led Reggiana to a 4th-place finish and promotion to Serie A.
Key players included goalkeeper Marco Ballotta, playmaker Pietro Strada, and Russian striker Igor Simutenkov, who was the team’s top scorer with 8 goals. Reggiana also participated in the Coppa Italia, reaching the third round before being eliminated by Bologna.
