In the 1984â85 season, Terry Venables took over as manager and led Barcelona to win La Liga, thanks in part to standout performances from German midfielder Bernd Schuster. The following season, the team reached their second European Cup final but lost to Steaua BucureÈti in a dramatic penalty shootout in Seville. During this period, tensions grew between club president NĂșñez and the nationalist support group Boixos Nois, who demanded NĂșñez's resignation. The group, initially associated with left-wing separatism, faced a rise in skinhead supporters who shifted the ideology toward fascism, creating divisions within the group and unexpectedly rallying behind NĂșñez. The remaining Boixos Nois, inspired by British hooligans, became increasingly violent, leading to widespread arrests. After the 1986 FIFA World Cup, Barcelona signed English top scorer Gary Lineker and goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta, but the team struggled, particularly after Schuster was sidelined. Venables was fired at the start of the 1987â88 season and replaced by Luis AragonĂ©s. The season concluded with the players rebelling against NĂșñez in the Hesperia mutiny, despite securing a 1-0 victory in the Copa del Rey final against Real Sociedad
