During the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup 1994-95, Feyenoord advanced to the quarter-finals by defeating SV Werder Bremen but were eventually eliminated by Real Zaragoza. In the quarter-finals of the 1995 KNVB Cup, Feyenoord faced Ajax, who would later win the UEFA Champions League 1994-95. Despite trailing 1-0, Ruud Heus equalized with a penalty just before full time. In extra time, Feyenoord became the only team to defeat Ajax during their unbeaten season in the Eredivisie and Champions League. Mike Obiku's goal, scored under the new golden goal rule, sealed the victory.
